Session Description: A Brave New Tech-Centered Democracy. Brigade's CEO Matt Mahan will host a high level talk with Q&A that will articulate the problem with our current political system in a thoughtful way and challenge attendees to imagine a future where they are truly at the center of their democracy. In short, we believe the problems of low voter turnout; diminished trust in elected officials and government institutions; and average citizens’ lack of awareness about civic issues are all symptoms of a more fundamental breakdown in our democracy. They are forces that take root and grow slowly over time, and that call for a paradigm shift of the kind that only new technologies can spark. Brigade invites attendees to come prepared with questions and to share their own experiences with the current state of technology in our democracy.

  • Company Description Brigade is a technology company founded in 2014 to tackle the problem of declining citizen power and engagement in democracy. People feel powerless, disconnected, and disenfranchised by big interest groups, big money, and less representation at all levels of government. Brigade wants to reverse this trend, and make involvement easy, effective, and enjoyable—and in so doing, restore political power back to where it should be: the people. Brigade thinks there’s a huge opportunity to leverage technology to tackle this problem and that’s what we hope to do at Brigade.
